Lil TJay was one of two victims shot early On Wednesday in New Jersey, just days after promising that it would be a “wonderful summer.”
The Bronx-born rapper was shot several times at Edgewater’s The Promenade. According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, cops received reports of gunshots near the scene shortly after midnight.
Lil TJay, whose true identity is Tione Marriot and who was 21 years old at the time, was found by the responding officers suffering from several bullet wounds.
According to the officials, Antoine Boyd, age 22, was also discovered with a single bullet wound.
Two patients were taken by ambulance to a nearby medical treatment center. It has been reported by TMZ that Lil TJay needed an emergency operation, but the authorities have not commented on their situation.
According to the authorities, Mohamed Konate attempted to rob Lil TJay, Boyd, and a third person that the artist was with, Jeffrey Valdez, who is 24 years old. This is what led to the gunshot. Both Valdez and Boyd were carrying weapons that were illegal at the time of the incident.
Eventually, on Wednesday, investigators from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office as well as the NYPD worked together to apprehend Konate. According to the authorities, he is currently being held for deportation to New Jersey.
He is accused of three charges of assault with a deadly weapon, three counts of armed robbery, two counts of an illegal criminal offense, and one crime of aggravated assault in the fourth degree.
Both Boyd and Valdez have been accused of unauthorized possession of firearms, and both are currently being held at the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack pending an initial consultation on the charges.
On Instagram, Lil Tjay has a following of more than 7 million people. After gaining notoriety on SoundCloud, he was approached by Columbia Records in 2018 and recruited. His first studio album, titled “True 2 Myself,” reached its highest position on the US Billboard top chart at No. 5.
Just 2 weeks before this incident the rapper uploaded a video of himself dancing shirtless with the caption “dis gon be a good summer.”
As per SeatGeek.com and the tour dates that were published to the rapper’s site, he was supposed to play on July 22 at the Nickelodeon Universe Tourist Attraction at American Dream Plaza. He was also obliged to complete at a number of concerts and festivals in Europe.
Other musicians, and athletes, extended their condolences to the rapper who was injured.
Hip-hop musician French Montana asked his followers on Twitter to “Pray for my little brother Lil Tjay.”
In the year 2020, the rapper is known as “Run It Up” was arrested in Brooklyn when the police discovered a stash of guns in the Cadillac Escalade he was traveling in after the vehicle had been pulled over.
On the eve of the New Year, he was brought before a judge to answer allegations of illegal possession of marijuana, illegal receiving stolen property, and criminal possession of weapons. He was released because a celebrity bondsman named Ira Judelson paid a bond in the amount of $50,000.
